The Ten Gods of BaZi

Every stem in a BaZi chart plays a role relative to the Day Master — one of the ten gods (also called the Ten Stars): authority, wealth, resource, output and companionship, two stars each. The same stem can be a different god in a different chart, because the role depends on your Day Master. Each page below explains one star: its meaning, its relation to the Day Master, when it is strong or troubled, and the careers it favors. New here? the ten Day Masters first — the ten gods are defined from it.

Questions people ask

What are the ten gods in BaZi?

Ten relationship labels computed between your Day Master and every other stem: Direct Officer and Seven Killings (authority), Direct and Indirect Wealth (money), Direct and Indirect Resource (learning and care), Eating God and Hurting Officer (talent and output), Friend and Rob Wealth (peers and rivals). They describe how the chart’s energies relate to you.

Why can the same stem be a different ten god in another chart?

Because the ten gods are relations, not fixed elements: Metal is Direct Resource for a Water Day Master, Direct Wealth for a Wood one, Seven Killings for a Metal one. The god is assigned by how a stem’s element and polarity relate to your Day Master.

Are the ten gods the same as the Japanese juyonso (通変星)?

Yes — the Japanese four-pillars tradition uses the same ten relations under the name tsuuhensei (十星/通変星), with the same meanings for reading personality, career and relationships.
